Univision's coverage of Mexico vs. Cuba match pulls strong male demo

Univision exclusive coverage of Thursday’s Mexico vs. Cuba match – part of the 2011 CONCACAF Copa Oro (Gold Cup) – led its Univision Network to a second-place finish in primetime, regardless of language, among Men 18-34 and Men 18-49.


While 8 million viewers tuned in to all or part of Mexico’s 5-0 victory, Univision had another key nightly victory over its English-language competition – outperforming CBS and NBC among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49. 

Through eight matches thus far, the 2011 Copa Oro is outpacing the 2009 tournament, averaging double the audience numbers of 2009 at the same point.

Additionally, the match was the #2 program of the night among Persons 12-34, Adults 18-34, Men 18-34 and Men 18-49 behind ABC’s “NBA Finals GM #5” telecast, but ahead of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night” and “NBA Countdown” as well as FOX’s first-run telecast of “So You think You Can Dance.”

During Univision’s coverage of the Copa Oro match between Cuba and Mexico, Univision local television stations had higher viewership than the CBS, NBC and FOX stations combined in several markets.

Regardless of language, the Copa Oro match between Cuba and Mexico was the #1 broadcast program during the time period in Phoenix among Adults 18-34 and Men 18-34.
