New York to Boston Audio Results and Commentary
By Clark Smidt, Broadcast Connector
April / May:  Always remembered as an important time for radio. What you do, say and play affects media buys and income for the rest of the year. Last week’s NAB, welcomed many new and sustained positives about radio. And, once upon a time, we had a good marriage with music. Today, other than properly logged commercials and paid concert appearances, demands for payment has put us in divorce court. Radio is wireless, everywhere and free, reaching 92% of everyone 6+ every week. Radio delivers free service out of thin air. We don’t charge for local content, public service announcements or delivering the news. And we don’t charge performers for promoting music with free three-minute commercials. Take the free promo, artists, like you always have and still do!

  1. I love every bit of information shared. My name is Celestine, I’m a radio guy in Sub-Saharan Africa (NIGERIA) and I work with the first FM station in the region and second in the continent. I picked one or two ideas from your write up which will my station here in Nigeria. But then again we have a great challenge here. Programing we know is key IGR, but most stations here lack programming & generate the large chunk of media buy for the year. What do you think can be done to improve patronage without altering the ethics of the profession and contents?

I will also want Nielsen to sent up an office in the most populous black nation on planet earth. The market is here.

    Thanks

  2. Once again, Clark, interesting analysis and suggestions. Thank you for making your comments, which I always find well worth reading.
