Victor Roque is a veteran of Puerto Rico’s media world, and has until now served as VP/Sales for Spanish Broadcasting System‘s four cadenas on the island.

Now, Roque has been tasked with overseeing all of the Miami-based company’s operations in metro San Juan and across the U.S. commonwealth.

Roque is now VP/GM for SBS/Puerto Rico, comprised of Personality-heavy Spanish Contemporary “La Mega,” Reggaetón-powered Latin Urban “La Nueva,” Classic Tropical “Zeta 93,” and Spanish Contemporary WRXD-FM “Play 96.5” in San Juan.

La Mega, La Nueva and Zeta can be heard across Puerto Rico on full-power simulcast partners.

Roque will lead SBS’s Puerto Rico-based sales teams across radio, digital and experiential Marketing. He reports to SBS COO Albert Rodriguez and takes on duties informally held by VP/Operations Alex Aleman. Aleman assumed oversight of Puerto Rico following the death of Topy Mamery, the last VP/GM of SBS/Puerto Rico, in December 2014.

A market veteran, Roque was New Business Development Director for SBS/Puerto Rico for an 11-year run before jumping to the top sales post. Before joining SBS, he was the New Business Director for Scripps’ now-defunct San Juan Star newspaper.

Roque also developed the entertainment division of Bella Group, the car industry leader Company in Puerto Rico.

“Victor is the consummate ad sales executive and one of the most driven and creative leaders on our sales team in Puerto Rico,” Rodriguez said from the U.S. mainland. “He’s a veteran of the business who comes to the role with passion and deep experience that will elevate how we serve our clients in the area. Puerto Rico is a highly competitive market and Victor is the kind of sales leader our team needs to meet the rapidly changing advertising landscape. His understanding of our diverse audience will ensure we continue to push barriers while delivering strategic results to make a lasting difference with our clients.”

Roque added, “Given the vast success of SBS’s programming lineup, and the impressive progress of the Company on all fronts, this is clearly a wonderful time to be at the nation’s preeminent Spanish-language media company. I look forward to working with SBS’s well-respected staff as well as Puerto Rico’s talented management team as we continue to build upon the company’s success.”

Latin music fans may recognize Victor’s name from salsa nights some 35 years ago: Roque is an established recording artist, with a band named “Victor Roque y La Gran Manzana” established in New York in the ’80s. Roque had several hits, including “Tus Besos.”
