Vodafone awards OMD buying in 20 markets

Ad Age reports Vodafone, the world’s largest mobile telecom provider, consolidated its $1 billion-plus global buying account OMD: “The assignment covers vast swathes of the globe, including Europe, Middle East and Asia-Pacific markets. 20 markets in all were covered in the review, though some were already handled by OMD.”

The review didn’t include the US, where Vodafone’s presence is a minority stake in Verizon Wireless. That was not part of the review. Early this year, OMD lost Vodafone’s U.K. media account to Carat—now OMD has it back. OMD also beat out a WPP unit dubbed “Team Vodafone,” which works on the phone maker’s creative.

Earlier this month OMD was awarded the $200 million media account for Monster.com, sans review.
