Pax Catholic Communications, the Archdiocese of Miami’s media ministry, has let go the majority of staff 1/3 at its flagship Spanish-language Radio Paz WACC-AM 830 in that market, blaming financial cutbacks. Seventeen were pink-slipped, including several veteran on-air personalities. Six employees at the 24-hour station are left, said a Miami Herald story.

In a press release, the archdiocese said it was forming a programming partnership with Birmingham, AL-based Eternal World Television Network (EWTN), the international Catholic television and radio network, to replace lost programming at the station—which included everything from local masses and a Bible school to interviews with South Florida priests and commentary on international Catholic news.

Some 11 hours of the station’s programming will now come from EWTN.
