WAGT is Auction-Bound

Gray TelevisionA Georgia high court overruled a lower court decision about WAGT(TV), Augusta. The earlier decision had barred Gray Television Group from operating the station it acquired earlier this year from Schurz Communications.

The action frees Gray to surrender WAGT’s spectrum into the incentive auction.

The commission figures WAGT’s opening bid price at more than $200 million.

Media General operated the station under a long-term contract with Schurz; Gray argued the WJBF-WAGT Joint Sales Agreement ended with the sale.

A lower court had sided with Media General’s position; Now, a higher court agreed with Gray and struck down an injunction, allowing Gray to take over the station’s programming and sales.
