WAMU-FM DC’s Bluegrass Country’s Katy Daley, host of The Katy Daley Show, has been named Broadcaster of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) at their 20th annual IBMA award show. Katy was one of three nominees in her category.

“Katy’s career in bluegrass music, which began right here at WAMU 88.5 and spans three decades, has been a true testament to the mission of Bluegrass Country — enlightening a worldwide audience about the past of bluegrass music, and supporting the future of bluegrass culture,” said Caryn Mathes, General Manager of WAMU 88.5 and WAMU’s Bluegrass Country. “She truly deserves this recognition.”

Daley started her broadcasting career on WAMU 88.5 in 1972 as a volunteer with Gary Henderson’s Saturday morning bluegrass show and quickly moved to the role of producer. She has hosted The Katy Daley Show on Bluegrass Country since 2006. This is the first win for Daley, who also was one of three finalists for IBMA’s Broadcast Personality of the Year in 2008.

The 20th annual IBMA award show took place 10/1 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The show was hosted by Grammy-award winning country artist Kathy Mattea and the legendary bluegrass band, Hot Rize.
