Steve Watt is returning to his Midwest roots to take on a Kansas City duopoly for The E.W. Scripps Company.

Effective later in April, Watt will serve as VP/GM for KMCI-38 and KSHB-41.

Watt, 52, has three decades of TV industry experience. He has been at WKRN-2 in Nashville since 2004, and rose through the ranks at the ABC affiliate — starting as LSM before rising to GSM, acting station manager and to his most recent role.

“Steve has impressed us with his accomplishments in Nashville,” said Scripps VP/TV Operations Debbie Turner. “With every new challenge, he set high goals and created a strategic plan to achieve them. He has rallied WKRN to become a strong competitor in the market. That takes vision, persistence and leadership. He’s the kind of leader we want at Scripps.”

Before joining WKRN, Watt worked at several media businesses in the Quad Cities, Iowa-Ill., market.

Watt succeeds Brian Bracco, who is retiring this month.
