Curtiss-JohnsonHubbard Chicago’s Classic Rock WDRV-FM The Drive announced the hiring of rock radio vet Curtiss Johnson as PD.  This announcement comes one month after 13-year Program Director Patty Martin announced her resignation.

Greg Solk, Senior Vice President of Programming at Hubbard Radio comments: “The idea of replacing Patty Martin—the only programmer at The Drive in our 13 rockin’ years was daunting, but we believe we have hit the jackpot.  Curtiss is a brilliant programmer, but he’s down to earth.  He’s artsy and scientific.  But most importantly, Curtiss shares my desire to produce local radio that surprises and delights.  Curtiss will begin that mission at Chicago’s Drive on Monday!

Johnson added “I’m ecstatic.  To work for one of the most highly regarded companies in our industry, programming one of the nation’s premier rock stations in a world class city like Chicago is a dream job.  I’m truly honored and humbled by the confidence Greg Solk and Drew Horowitz have shown in allowing me to be in the next leader of The Drive and its legendary staff.”

Curtiss will be on hand this Friday, 6/20 at The Drive’s free 13th Birthday Party for its loyal listeners, who will be enjoying the rock n’ stylings of Peter Frampton and Cheap Trick.

Johnson’s resume includes Format Captain for Entercom Rock and Classic Rock, 15 years as PD/Station Manager of Entercom’s cluster in Sacramento-KRXQ, KWOD and KSEG, and Program Director of KUKQ and KUPD Phoenix.
