Web contest will cost KOST

Clear Channel’s KOST-FM Los Angeles told the FCC that a contest it ran on the station’s website to give away tickets to “Les Miserables” wasn’t even covered by the Commission’s contest rules because it wasn’t a radio contest. But the FCC disagreed, saying that because it was mentioned on the air, the web contest had to comply with the regulations. A contest entrant complained that some winners were announced before the stated deadline for entries. The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau found that KOST failed to fully disclose the rules for the contest, even on the website, and has issued a notice of apparent liability for a fine of $6,000.
