Last night’s IDOL posted the show’s biggest year-over-year gain for a performance show this season.

Airing against significant NBA playoffs competition in primetime (Atlanta vs Chicago and Dallas vs. Los Angeles), and with every network back in originals last night, FOX’s AMERICAN IDOL took the same week-over-week dip as it did last season at this point in the competition.

Even so, FOX dominated the competition on Thursday by +93%% in the core adult demo and won the night across every other demo as well.

AMERICAN IDOL:  6.4/18, down -10% from last week but will likely go up a few tenths in the finals as it has for the past several weeks.

AMERICAN IDOL grew +3% vs. the comparable telecast last year in Adults 18-49 and is projected to be up +6% year-over-year when the finals are released later today (6.6 vs. 6.2).

Last night’s IDOL posted the show’s biggest year-over-year gain for a performance show this season, up +18% in Total Viewers (20.6m vs. 17.5m) versus last year’s Top 5 show.

IDOL was the highest rated program of the night and beat the next highest rated show (Modern Family) by +68% in Adults 18-49.

So far this season with Comparable Most Current ratings AMERICAN IDOL retains 94% of Adults 18-49 (8.4/23 vs. 8.9/23) and is up +2% in Total Viewers (24.8 vs. 24.3 Mil.) versus the same period last season.

BREAKING IN:  2.5/6, up +4% from last week in both the adult demo and Total Viewers.

BREAKING IN was the #2 program of the night in Teens behind only AMERICAN IDOL..
