Wednesday's 'American Idol' continues winning for Fox

First time this season Idol  outperformed its equivalent night last year.


Airing a one-hour AMERICAN IDOL audition episode and an original HUMAN TARGET, FOX last night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos and outperformed the next highest rated net for the night by +119% in A18-49 (vs. NBC) and +99% in Total Viewers (vs. CBS).    

AMERICAN IDOL
For the first time this season AMERICAN IDOL (8.9/24 in Adults 18-49 with 24.9 Mil Total Viewers) outperformed its equivalent night last year in Total Viewers by +2% (vs. 24.5 Mil on 1/26/10) and retained 98% of its Adults 18-49 audience (vs. 9.1/24).

Compared to last week’s 8-9p hour AMERICAN IDOL grew in Adults 18-49 by +3% (8.9/24 vs. 8.6/24) and +4% in Total Viewers (24.9 vs. 23.9 Mil.)

Last night’s IDOL outperformed last Thursday’s telecast by +16% in the adult demo and +11% in Total Viewers

AMERICAN IDOL beat the next highest rated program of the night by +154% in Adults 18-49 (8.9/24 vs. 3.5/9 for Modern Family repeat) and +122% in Total Viewers (24.9 vs. 11.2 Mil for Blue Bloods.)  

In the 8p hour AMERICAN IDOL out-rated the combined 4-net competition by +82% among Adults 18-49 (8.9 vs. 4.9) and +34% in Total Viewers (24.9 vs. 18.6 Mil.)               

HUMAN TARGET
At 9pm, HUMAN TARGET posted a 2.6/7 among Adults 18-49, up +24% from its last original — its highest ratings in over one year among Adults 18-49 (since 1/26/10) and in Total Viewers (since 1/20/10).

Last night’s HUMAN TARGET outperformed its prior season average with originals by +63% in Adults 18-49 (2.6/7 vs. 1.6/5) and +55% in Total Viewers (9.3 vs. 6.0 Mil.)

                              
Competition
Following repeats of The Middle (1.7/5 and 1.8/5) and Modern Family (3.5/9), ABC’s Cougar Town (2.7/7) was up +35% from last week’s season low but on par with its prior original average. At 10p, new drama Off The Map (1.8/5) matched its lowest performance to date.

CBS aired Live to Dance (1.0/3, matching its lowest rating to date), a Criminal Minds repeat (2.2/6), and Blue Bloods (1.6/5, matching its lowest original to date).

NBC ran original episodes of Minute to Win It (2.4/6, up +71% vs. 1/26/11) and Law & Order: SVU (2.9/8 up +26% vs. 1/19/11).
