WEEI.com is searching for “The Next Great Sports Blogger.” The WEEI Sports Radio Network’s web site will be holding an unprecedented contest which will ultimately provide two winners the opportunity to blog on the web site and receive $5,000 in compensation for blog entries during 2009.

The contest, presented by TD Banknorth and runs from September 3 – October 31, will provide entrants the opportunity to submit a blog entry to WEEI.com. Winners will have the amazing opportunity to share blogging duties with some of the best writers in the business, including Deadspin.com founder Will Leitch, former Boston Herald scribe Mike Felger and WEEI.com site editor Rob Bradford.

Contestants can submit a sample of up to 500 words to WEEI.com’s “Next Great Sports Blogger” page at weei.com/blogger. Entries should be focused in on the Boston sports scene and reflect the author’s wit, creativity, sports knowledge and unique perspective to craft a piece of work worthy of being featured on WEEI.com. The deadline for submissions is September 30, 2008.

A panel of judges, including WEEI Sports Radio on-air talent such as Gerry Callahan, Michael Holley, Mike Felger, Glenn Ordway, other Boston sports media icons and athletes, and WEEI.com site editor Rob Bradford, will help narrow down the field of entries to determine the 10 Finalists. Then starting October 15, the finalists will be tested in a final round of challenges judged by WEEI.com readers in an open vote deciding the winners of “The Next Great Sports Blogger” contest.

In the end, two winners will be chosen as the “The Next Great Sports Blogger,” and will have the opportunity to write a daily blog for WEEI.com starting in January.
