The Season Premiere of “Two and a Half Men” Scores the Largest Audience and Highest Adult 18-49 Rating in Series History and is TV’s Best Scripted Series Season Premiere Since 2005.

CBS.com Breaks Premiere Week Record with Unique Visitors Up More Than 50%

CBS won premiere week in viewers and adults 25-54 for the third straight year and finished a strong second in adults 18-49, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Sept. 25.

CBS has the season’s top new comedy and series – 2 BROKE GIRLS – and top two new dramas – UNFORGETTABLE and PERSON OF INTEREST.

CBS had the top five scripted programs – TWO AND A HALF MEN, NCIS, 2 BROKE GIRLS, NCIS: LOS ANGELES and THE BIG BANG THEORY (S) – in viewers.  Overall, CBS had five of the top 10 programs, 11 of the top 20 – more than any other network.

CBS had five programs in the top 10 in adults 18-49 with TWO AND A HALF MEN, 2 BROKE GIRLS, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER 8:30PM (S), THE BIG BANG THEORY (S) and THE BIG BANG THEORY – more than any other network.

CBS had six programs in the top 10 in adults 25-54 with TWO AND A HALF MEN, 2 BROKE GIRLS, THE BIG BANG THEORY (S), THE BIG BANG THEORY, NCIS and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER 8:30PM (S) – more than the other networks combined.

TWO AND A HALF MEN was the week’s #1 program in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.  This is the first time since 2004 that CBS had the #1 program in both viewers and adults 18-49 during Premiere Week.

NCIS was the week’s #1 drama in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.

2 BROKE GIRLS was the week’s #1 new program in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 with the largest fall new series premiere audience since 2001.  UNFORGETTABLE was the #1 new drama in households and viewers, PERSON OF INTEREST was the top new drama in adults 25-54.

CBS was first at 10:00 PM in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and tied for first in adults 18-49 (with ABC) Monday to Friday. 

Premiere week success also extended online, with CBS.com breaking single-day and full-week records.   On Tuesday, September 20, CBS.com broke its single-day traffic record for the second consecutive day, with more than 2 million unique visitors, up 100% from last year. For the full week, CBS.com had 7.5 million unique visitors, up 50% from the previous year.

For the week in viewers:  CBS (12.12m), ABC (9.87m), FOX (8.37m) and NBC (7.50m).

For the week in households:  CBS (7.6/12), ABC (6.4/10), FOX (4.9/08) and  NBC (4.7/08). 

For the week in key demographics, CBS was first in adults 25-54 (4.1/10) and second in adults 18-49 (3.1/08). 

CBS Weekly Highlights:

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (P) was first in adults 25-54 (5.3/13), adults 18-49 (4.7/13), adults 18-34 (4.3/14), second in households (6.8/11) and viewers (11.01m).  HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER posted its best delivery ever with a season premiere in viewers, adults 25-54, adults 18-49 and adults 18-34, best household premiere delivery in households since 2005. 

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (S) was first in adults 25-54 (5.8/13), adults 18-49 (5.2/13), adults 18-34 (4.7/13) and second in both households (7.3/11) and viewers (12.22m). 

TWO AND A HALF MEN (P) was first in households (16.7/24), viewers (28.74m), adults 25-54 (12.6/27) and adults 18-49 (10.7/25) – all series highs.   TWO AND A HALF MEN posted the best season premiere for a scripted program in viewers since CSI in September 2005, in adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 since “Desperate Housewives” in September 2005. 

2 BROKE GIRLS (P) was first in adults 25-54 (8.6/18) and adults 18-49 (7.1/16), second in both households (11.5/16) and viewers (19.37m).  CBS posted its best delivery in this time period with entertainment programming since May 16, 2005 in these measures.  2 BROKE GIRLS posted the largest audience for a fall comedy premiere since “Inside Schwartz” in September 2001. 

HAWAII FIVE-0 (P) won its time slot in adults 25-54 (4.5/10), adults 18-49 (3.4/08), second in both households (7.7/12) and viewers (12.19m). 

NCIS (P) was first in households (12.2/19), viewers (19.96m), adults 25-54 (5.9/15) and adults 18-49 (4.3/12). 

NCIS: LOS ANGELES (P) was first in households (10.3/15), viewers (16.71m), adults 25-54 (5.0/11) and second in adults 18-49 (3.6/09).  NCIS: LOS ANGELES posted its best delivery in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 since February 22, 2011. 

UNFORGETTABLE (P) was first in households (9.0/15), viewers (14.09m), adults 25-54 (4.2/10) and adults 18-49 (2.9/08).  CBS posted its best delivery in this time period with regularly scheduled programming since March 9, 2010 in households, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49, February 9, 2010 in viewers.  CBS won the 10:00 PM hour for the second consecutive night in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49. 

CRIMINAL MINDS (P) was first in households (8.8/13), second in viewers (14.14m, -0.39m behind ABC).  CRIMINAL MINDS posted its best delivery in households since December 8 2010, in viewers since March 2, 2011, in adults 25-54 (5.0/11) since November 3, 2010 and in adults 18-49 (4.1/10) since January 20, 2010. 

CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (P) was first in households (7.9/13), viewers (12.74m), adults 25-54 (4.2/10) and second in adults 18-49 (3.2/09, -0.1 behind ABC). 

THE BIG BANG THEORY (P) was first in households (8.6/14), viewers (14.30m), adults 25-54 (6.3/17) and adults 18-49 (4.9/15).  THE BIG BANG THEORY posted its largest Thursday audience to date, posted best Thursday households and adults 25-54 ratings and matched best Thursday adults 18-49 ratings. 

THE BIG BANG THEORY (S) was first in households (8.8/14), viewers (14.94m), adults 25-54 (6.6/16) and adults 18-49 (5.1/14).  THE BIG BANG THEORY (S) was the night’s #1 program in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49. 

PERSON OF INTEREST (P) was first in households (8.3/13), viewers (13.33m), tied for second in adults 25-54 (4.4/10, with ABC). 

THE MENTALIST (P) was first in households (8.4/14), viewers (13.56m), second in adults 25-54 (3.9/09) and adults 18-49 (2.8/07). 

A GIFTED MAN (P) was first in households (6.3/11), viewers (9.45m), adults 25-54 (2.2/07) and second in adults 18-49 (1.4/05).  CBS posted its best regularly scheduled time period delivery in this hour since March 13, 2009 in households (“Ghost Whisperer”), May 8, 2009 in viewers (“Ghost Whisperer”) and March 4, 2011 in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 (the series finale of “The Defenders”). 

CSI: NY (P) was first in households (6.8/12), viewers (10.68m), adults 25-54 (2.7/07) and adults 18-49 (1.8/06). 

BLUE BLOODS (P) won its time slot in households (7.8/14), viewers (12.06m), second in adults 25-54 (2.9/08, -0.1 behind NBC) and adults 18-49 (2.0/06). 

THE AMAZING RACE 19 (P) was second in households (6.1/09), viewers (10.18m) and adults 25-54 (4.0/09).

THE GOOD WIFE (P) was second in households (7.0/10) and viewers (10.66m), topping “Desperate Housewives” final season premiere by nearly three-quarter of million viewers.

Note:  DVR penetration is at 42%, up from 38% last year. Last Fall, Live+7 audiences for original entertainment series on CBS gained over 1.8 million viewers, on average, over Live+ Same Day ratings, more than any other network.  This season, we expect DVR penetration to continue to increase and, as a result, we expect DVR playback audiences to grow to as well.
