Week 43: 'America's Got Talent' leads NBC in primetime

Paced by two editions of “America’s Got Talent,” which were the top two non-sports telecasts of the week in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures, NBC averaged a 1.4 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49 and 5.1 million viewers overall for the week of July 12-18, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.  For the week, NBC ranked #3 in primetime in adults 18-49 and tied for #2 in adults 18-34.  NBC also tied for #2 in men 25-54 and ranked #2 outright among men 18-49 and men 18-34.
 
The Tuesday and Wednesday editions of “America’s Got Talent” were the #1 and #2 non-sports programs of the week in numerous key measures, including adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers, trailing only Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game.  Among teens 12-17, the Tuesday and Wednesday “Talents” were the #1 and #2 major-network telecasts of the week, topping even the All-Star Game.
 
An edition of “America’s Got Talent” has been the #1 non-sports telecast in total viewers every week the show has aired this summer, a streak that has now reached seven weeks in a row.  In adults 18-49, “Talent” has generated the #1 non-sports rating for the last five weeks in a row.
 
Also ranking among the top 20 programs for the July 12-18 week in primetime’s key demographic of adults 18-49 were Wednesday’s “Minute to Win It” (#15, tied) and Monday’s “Last Comic Standing” (#19, tied).
 
Primetime averages for the week of July 12-18 in adults 18-49 were Fox (1.9/6), ABC (1.5/5), NBC (1.4/5), CBS (1.3/4) and CW (0.4/1).  In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (6.0 million), Fox (5.6 million), NBC (5.1 million), ABC (5.0 million) and CW (1.0 million).
 
 
NBC highlights for the week of July 12-18
 
* On Monday, “Last Comic Standing” grew week to week in the 9-10 p.m. ET hour by 13 percent in adults 18-49 and 24 percent in total viewers.    
 
* On Tuesday, “America’s Got Talent” delivered the #1 non-sports results of the night in adults 18-49 and total viewers.  Despite competition this week from Fox’s telecast of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the Tuesday “Talent” finished within 3 percent of its week-ago result in 18-49 and within 2 percent in total viewers. 
 
* Also on Tuesday, “Losing It With Jillian” gained 17 percent in adults 18-49 week-to-week, generating its highest 18-49 rating in four weeks.
 
* On Wednesday, “America’s Got Talent” was the #1 show of the night in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures.
 
* The Wednesday “Talent” won its time period in 18-49, total viewers and nearly all other key measures, taking the hour by as margin of 35 percent in adults 18-49 and by 82 percent or more than 5.1 million persons in total viewers
 
* Also on Wednesday, “Minute to Win It” finished within one share of the time-period lead in adults 18-49 and won the hour in total viewers versus CBS’s debut of “Big Brother Wednesday” and Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”  “Minute to Win It” also led the highly competitive slot among the major networks in all key adult-male demos – men 18-34, men 18-49 and men 25-54.
 
* Additionally on Wednesday, a rebroadcast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” won its hour in adults 18-49, total viewers and all other key ratings categories.  In total viewers, it was the top-scoring episode of “SVU” in four weeks. 
 
* NBC ranked #1 in primetime Wednesday in adults 25-54 and total viewers and #2 in adults 18-49, with a 2.2/7 from 8-11 p.m. ET in adults 18-49 versus Fox’s 2.3/8 from 8-10 p.m.  In head-to-head competition from 8-10 p.m., NBC topped Fox in adults 18-49 (2.6 vs. 2.3).   
 
* On Thursday, an encore telecast of “The Office” attracted the show’s biggest overall audience since the “Office” season finale in May, while a rebroadcast of “Parks and Recreation” posted that show’s highest 18-49 rating since June 10 and biggest overall audience since June 3.  
 
* Also on Thursday, a rebroadcast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” at 10 p.m. ET locked up NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in the time period since June 10 and hit a summer high for the network in the hour in total viewers.
 
* On Sunday, a two-hour encore telecast of “America’s Got Talent” won its second hour from 10-11 p.m. ET in all key demographics — adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.

On Monday, July 12 from 8-9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “America’s Got Talent” (1.3 rating, 4 share in adults 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall) generated NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in the time period since June 7 and biggest overall audience in the slot, excluding sports telecasts, since May 17.
 
Monday from 9-10 p.m. ET, “Last Comic Standing” (1.7/5 in adults 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall) delivered its best 18-49 rating in the Monday 9-10 p.m. hour in three weeks and its biggest overall audience in this hour in four weeks.  Versus the prior Monday, “Last Comic” was up in the 9-10 p.m. hour by 13 percent in 18-49 rating (1.7 vs. 1.5) and by 24 percent in total viewers (4.8 million vs. 3.8 million).  In the time period, “Last Comic” tied for #2 among the major networks in adults 18-34 and was #2 outright among men 18-49 and men 18-34.
 
Monday at 10 p.m., “Dateline NBC” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the major networks in the hour in total viewers, men 18-49 and men 25-54. 
 
On Tuesday, July 13 at 8 p.m. ET, “Losing It With Jillian” (1.4/5 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall) generated its highest 18-49 rating in four weeks (since June 15).  Week-to-week, “Losing It With Jillian” increased 17 percent in 18-49 rating (1.4 vs. 1.2).  From its first half-hour to its second, “Jillian” increased by 15 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.5 from a 1.3).
 
Tuesday from 9-11 p.m. ET, “America’s Got Talent” (3.3/10 in 18-49, 11.6 million viewers overall) delivered the #1 non-sports results of the night in adults 18-49 and total viewers.  Despite competition from Fox’s telecast of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, “Talent” finished within 3 percent of its week-ago result in 18-49 (3.3 vs. 3.4) and within 2 percent in total viewers (11.6 million vs. 11.8 million).
 
On Wednesday, July 14 from 8-9 p.m. ET, “Minute to Win It” (2.0/7 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall) finished within one share of the time-period lead in adults 18-49 and won the hour in total viewers versus CBS’s debut of “Big Brother Wednesday” and Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”  “Minute to Win It” also led the highly competitive slot among the major networks in all key adult-male demos – men 18-34, men 18-49 and men 25-54.
 
From its first half-hour to its second, “Minute to Win It” increased by 28 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.3/8 from a 1.8/7) and 21 percent or more than 1.2 million persons in total viewers (to 7.4 million from 6.1 million).  For its second half-hour from 8:30-9 p.m., “Minute to Win It” tied for #1 in adults 18-49 and ranked #1 outright in adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures.
 
Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, “America’s Got Talent” (3.1/10 in 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall) delivered the #1 results of the night in adults 18-49 and total-viewers.  “America’s Got Talent” won its time period in 18-49, total viewers and nearly all other key measures.  “Talent” took the hour by a margin of 35 percent in adults 18-49 (3.1 vs. 2.3 for Fox’s second-place “So You Think You Can Dance”) and by 82 percent or more than 5.1 million persons in total viewers (11.4 million vs. 6.3 million for CBS’s second-place “Criminal Minds” encore).
 
Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (1.6/5 in adults 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall) ranked #1 among the major networks in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54, total viewers and all other key ratings categories.  In total viewers, it was the top-scoring episode of “SVU” in four weeks (since June 16).
 
NBC ranked #1 in primetime Wednesday in adults 25-54 and total viewers and #2 in adults 18-49, with a 2.2/7 from 8-11 p.m. ET in adults 18-49 versus Fox’s 2.3/8 from 8-10 p.m.  In head-to-head competition from 8-10 p.m., NBC topped Fox in adults 18-49 (2.6 vs. 2.3). 
 
On Thursday, July 15 at 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Community” averaged a 0.8/3 and 2.4 million viewers overall, matching its highest 18-49 rating in this slot in five weeks (since June 10).
 
Thursday from 8:30-9 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of  “30 Rock” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 2.3 million viewers overall) earned NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in this time slot since June 3.
 
Thursday from 9-9:31 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “The Office’ (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall) delivered its biggest overall audience since the show’s season finale on May 20. In the time period, “The Office” tied for #2 among the major networks in adults 18-34, ranked #2 outright among men 18-49 and tied for #1 among men 18-34.
 
Thursday from 9:31-10 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of “Parks and Recreation” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 2.4 million viewers overall) posted the show’s highest 18-49 rating since June 10 and biggest overall audience since June 3 (previously this summer, “Parks” aired in the 10:30 p.m. half-hour).
 
Thursday at 10 p.m. ET, en encore telecast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall) locked up NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in this time period since June 10 and hit a summer high for the network in this hour in total viewers.  From its first half-hour to its second, “SVU” increased by 18 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.3 from a 1.1) and by 21 percent in total viewers (to 4.0 million from 3.3 million) while the other two major networks were flat or declining in both categories.  From 10:30-11 p.m., “SVU” ranked #1 in adults and women 18-34 and tied for #1 in women 18-49.
 
On Friday, July 16 from 8-10 p.m. ET, the made-for-television movie “The Jensen Project” averaged a 0.8/3 in 18-49 and 3.6 million viewers overall.  
 
Friday from 10-11 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” (1.1/4 in adults 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the major networks in the time period in adults 18-49, tied for #1 among the major networks in men 18-49 and men 25-54 and was #1 outright in men 18-34.  From its first half-hour to its second, “Dateline” increased its 18-49 rating by 20 percent (to a 1.2 from a 1.0) and its overall viewership by 16 percent (4.0 million vs. 3.4 million).
 
On Saturday, July 17 at 8 p.m. ET, “Persons Unknown” averaged a 0.5/2 in 18-49 and 1.7 million viewers overall.
 
Saturday at 9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” delivered a 0.5/2 in 18-49 and 2.8 million viewers overall.
 
Saturday at 10 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the time period in most key categories and tied for #1 among the major networks in adults 18-34.
 
On Sunday, July 18 from 7-8 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” (1.0/4 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the major networks in the hour in adults 18-49 ahead of CBS’s “60 Minutes.”  From its first half-hour to its second, “Dateline” increased by 22 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.1 from a 0.9) and by 13 percent in total viewers (to 4.8 million from 4.3 million).
 
Sunday from 8-9 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” averaged a 0.8/3 in 18-49 and 4.6 million viewers overall.
 
Sunday from 9-11 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “America’s Got Talent” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the time period in 18-49, total viewers and most other key categories.  From its first half-hour to its fourth, “Talent” grew by 33 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.6/5 from a 1.2/3).
 
For its second hour from 10-11 p.m. ET, the “America’s Got Talent” encore ranked #1 in all key demographics — adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.
