Premios Juventud and Pequeños Gigantes Drove Univision to the #1 Position on Thursday and Friday nights among Adults 18-34 and 18-49


For the second consecutive week, Univision was the #2 broadcast network in primetime among Adults 18-34, out-delivering ABC, NBC and CBS

Univision Broadcast Prime Highlights – Week of July 18, 2011 to July 24, 2011

#1 on Friday night for the 11th time in the last 20 weeks among Adults 18-49, and for the 16th consecutive Friday among Adults 18-34.

Univision aired the top two programs on Friday night among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 with #1 “Pequeños Gigantes” and #2 “Teresa. ” Both Friday telecasts posted double-digit increases versus the previous Friday among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-49, and Adults 18-34.

On Thursday night Univision ranked as the #1 broadcast network among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 beating FOX, ABC, NBC, and CBS. Showcasing performances by Pitbull, Ne-Yo , and Ricky Martin (among others), Univision aired the 8th Annual “Premios Juventud” on this night, with the live 3-hour special delivering an average audience of 4.6 million Total Viewers 2+, 2.6 million Adults 18-49, and 1.6 million Adults 18-34.

Univision’s double-digit advantage over its closest competitor on this night (# 2 CBS)  was +14% among Adults 18-49 and +78% among Adults 18-34
Premios Juventud was the top-rated program on all of television Thursday night, regardless of language, among all Adults 18-34 (1.6 million) delivering more viewers than ABC’s entire line-up of first run episodes including “Wipeout,” “Expedition Impossible” and “Rookie Blue” as well as CBS’ “Big Brother;” NBC’s “Love Bites;” and FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”
 
Premios Juventud was also the  third most-popular program on television among Adults 18-49 delivering more viewers than the original episodes of ABC’s “Wipeout,” “Expedition Impossible” and “Rookie Blue;” NBC’s “Love Bites;” and FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Univision ranked as the #2 broadcast network for the second consecutive week among Adults 18-34, out-delivering ABC (+45%), NBC (+51%), and CBS (+56%).

On Saturday night Univision aired Sabado Gigante” (Giant Saturday) at 8PM and kicked off its coverage of the Primera División Mexico Apertura 2011 soccer season at 10PM featuring a match-up between Atlante and Guadalajara. The telecasts solidified Univision’s position as the #3 broadcast network for the night among Adults 18-34 (375,000) beating CBS (+58%) and NBC (+73%.)

Univision was also the #3 broadcast network for the entire week in primetime among Adults 18-49, out-delivering ABC (+6%) and NBC (+5%)

Univision out-delivered one or more of the English-language broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX) on every night last week among Adults 18-34 and on five out of seven nights among Adults 18-49.

 During the summer months Univision ranks as the #2 broadcast network among Adults 18-34 beating FOX (+8%), NBC (+20%), and CBS (+111%.) Univision also posts year-to year audience increases among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers 2+. 

Thus far in 2011, Univision continues to be the #3 broadcast network averaging more Adults 18-34 viewers than CBS (+10%) and NBC (+12%)

Season-to-Date, Univision continues to post year-to-year primetime audience increases among Adults 18-49 (+7%) while the English-language broadcast networks are reporting audience declines (ABC -8%, CBS -8%, NBC -11%, and FOX -5%); Univision’s audience also increased among Total Viewers 2+ (+6%) and Adults 18-34 (+5%).

From 9PM to 10PM, Univision’s novela “Triunfo del Amor” garnered the #1 spot for the network this past week among Adults 18-34 and #2 for the week among Adults 18-49.

Led by “Teresa”, Univision ranked as the #2 broadcast network for the week from 8PM to 9PM among Adults 18-34 and ranked #4 among Adults 18-49.

Univision aired 7 of the top 20 programs among Adults 18-34 and 4 of the top 20 among Adults 18-49 this past week.

In the final week of Copa America 2011 coverage, Univision aired the tournament’s semifinals and finals. For the entire 2011 tournament, Copa America averaged 2.4 Million Total Viewers 2+, 1.4 Million Adults 18-49, and 717,000 Adults 18-34.

On Tuesday night the semifinal match featuring Uruguay’s victory over Peru averaged 2.7 Million Total Viewers 2+, 1.6 Million Adults 18-49 and 795,000 Adults 18-34. The semifinal match was the second highest rank sports telecast for the week among Adults 18-34, only behind Univision’s Copa America semifinal between Paraguay and Venezuela.  The telecast outdelivered FOX baseball coverage and CBS’s coverage of the Canadian Open.

On Wednesday night the semifinal match Paraguay and Venezuela  averaged 2.9 Million Total Viewers 2+, 1.7 Million Adults 18-49 and 849,000 Adults 18-34. The semifinal match was the highest rank sports telecast for the week among Adults 18-34, out delivering FOX’s  baseball coverage and CBS’s coverage of the Canadian Open.

On Sunday night, Univision’s talent competition “Pequeños Gigantes” (Little Giants) was the third highest rated program among Adults 18-49 and fourth highest Adults 18-34. The talent competition solidified Univision’s place as the #2 broadcast network for the night among Adults 18-34 (1.2 Million) and ranked #3 among Adults 18-49 (2.3 Million).
