Closing Out its Freshman Season as TV’s No. 1 New Scripted Series This Summer, “Rookie Blue” Generates Triple-Digit Year-to-Year Time Period Gains for ABC. “20/20: A Barbara Walters Special” is No. 1 on Friday in Key Adult Demos, as the ABC Newsmagazine Hits a 7-Week High with its Most-Watched Telecast Since July.

WEEK No. 51:
During the week of September 6, 2010, ABC was up from the same week last year in both Total Viewers (+12% – 4.8 million vs. 4.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (+8% – 1.4/4 vs. 1.3/4).  Consistently topping year-ago results, the Net was up over the same week last summer for the 16th time in 17 weeks among Adults 18-49 (15 of 17 weeks in Total Viewers).
Rankings:  ABC claimed 3 of the week’s Top 20 entertainment series among Adults 18-49:  “Wipeout-TUES” – No. 6, “Wipeout SP-9/7” – No. 17 and “Bachelor Pad SP-9/6” – No. 20.
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 38% currently, from 32% at the same point in 2009. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
