Week 52: NBC solid week with 'SNF football' and 'Talent'

With a top-scoring NFL telecast, potent numbers from the final episodes of “America’s Got Talent” and strong ratings for the series preview of “Up All Night,” NBC dominated the primetime ratings week of September 12-18, averaging a 2.8 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49 and 8.2 million viewers overall, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.
  
For the week, NBC ranked #1 among the major networks in all key measures – adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49, 25-54, as well as total viewers.


For the week NBC claimed four of the top five rankings in adults 18-49 (excluding all football pre-game and post-game telecasts), with “NBC Sunday Night Football” ranking #1, the Tuesday and Wednesday editions of “America’s Got Talent” ranking #3 and #4 respectively and Tuesday’s special preview of the new comedy “Up All Night” ranking #5. Also ranking among the top programs of the week in adults 18-49 were the season premiere of “Parenthood” (#14) and Tuesday’s special preview of the new comedy “Free Agents” (#15, tied).

In total viewers, NBC aired the top three telecasts of the week and four of the top 10 (excluding football pre-game and post-game telecasts)  – “Sunday Night Football,” with 23.4 million viewers was #1; Wednesday’s “America’s Got Talent” finale, with 14.4 million viewers was #2; Tuesday’s edition of “America’s Got Talent,” with 13.7 million viewers was #3; and the preview of “Up All Night,” with 10.9 million viewers was #6. This marked the 16th consecutive week that “America’s Got Talent” ranked #1 in total viewers among non-sports programs on the broadcast networks.

“NBC Sunday Night Football” earned the distinction this week of ranking #1 among all primetime programs on the broadcast networks in all key ratings measures – adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. plus total viewers – as well as teens 12-17 and kids 2-11.

Primetime averages for the week of September 12-18 in adults 18-49 were NBC (2.8/8), ABC and CBS (1.7/5), Fox (1.6/5) and CW (0.8/2).  In overall total viewers the weekly averages were NBC (8.2 million), CBS (7.1 million), ABC (5.9 million), Fox (4.8 million) and CW (1.9 million).

The week of September 12-18 concluded the unofficial 2011 summer season. NBC ranked #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in primetime in adults 18-49 with a 1.8 rating for the period May 26 through September 18, 2011. Primetime averages for the period May 26-September 18 in adults 18-49 were NBC (1.8), ABC and Fox (1.7), CBS (1.4), and CW (0.4).  In overall total viewers, summer 2011 averages were CBS (6.4 million), NBC (6.2 million), ABC (5.5 million), Fox (4.6 million) and CW (0.9 million).
