Ratings from The Nielsen Company show that ABC won premiere week in the key 18-49 demo and CBS in the Household ratings. Audiences were, however, mostly down from Week One of the 2008-2009 TV season.
CBS proudly trumpeted that it was the only major network to post audience gains in both total viewers and the 18-49 demo.
In HH, CBS posted a 7.3 rating and 12 share (up from 7.1/12 a year ago), with ABC 7.1/12, NBC 4.8/8, Fox 4.3/7, Univision 1.9/3, CW 1.5/2, MyNetworkTV 0.9/1, Telemundo 0.5/1, Ion and TeleFutura 0.4/1, and Azteca America 0.1/0.
ABC won 18-49 with 3.3/9 (down from 3.8/10 a year ago), with CBS at 3.2/9, Fox 3.1/9, NBC 2.7/8, Univision 1.5/4, CW 1.0/3, Telemundo, TeleFutura and MyNetworkTV 0.4/1, Ion 0.2/1, and Azteca America 0.1/0.
Up against competition from season premiere programming, the best showing for “The Jay Leno Show” on NBC was #44 in HH and #46 in 18-49 for his Tuesday show, with special guest Pee Wee Herman. “NCIS” on CBS was tops for HH and “NBC Sunday Night Football” topped the 18-49 tally.
