When it came time to select a President and GM to succeed the now-retired Henry Florsheim at ABC’s owned-and-operated KTRK-13 in Houston, ABC Owned Television Stations Group President Wendy McMahon went with someone who shares her first name.

News executive Wendy Granato will now fill the shoes worn by Florsheim since 1997.

As VP/News at KTRK for five years, Granato was responsible for the merger of the station’s broadcast and digital departments. She was instrumental in leading the station’s coverage during Hurricane Harvey in 2017, during which time KTRK offered storm coverage nonstop for eight consecutive days.

“Thanks for all the love and support,” Granato told her Twitter followers on Thursday. “I’m so excited for the days ahead.”

McMahon said, “As our head of News in Houston, Wendy has done an incredible job upholding our commitment to quality journalism and the communities we serve while driving modernization across the organization. I am incredibly excited to now have Wendy leading the way for us at KTRK ABC13, embracing change and innovation while maintaining a dynamic and vibrant culture.”

Before joining KTRK, Granato was the news director for KNWS (now KYAZ-51) in Houston. It was an all-news station owned by Johnson Broadcasting and is today an Azteca América O&O owned by HC2 Station Group.  Earlier in her career, she was a news reporter and morning news anchor for KATC-3 in Lafayette, La.

Florsheim concluded his career on July 1, ending 34 years at ABC O&Os.
