Westwood One lays off six

It’s been a while since Westwood One let a group of staffers go, but as Chris Miller, Westwood One Chief Marketing Officer, tells RBR-TVBR, the 1/28 layoff was limited to six people out of 1,500: “In the course of doing business, and making sure our resources were aligned with the direction of the company (which is forging heavily into new programming), this was done primarily to support our growth areas for 2011 and reallocate where necessary.”

This is a far cry from the tough days of 2009 when Westwood One CEO Rod Sherwood instituted 5-15% salary cuts and a few days of furloughs to stabilize things. In fact, WW1 stock improved some 103% in 2010.
