Westwood-One-LOGO-2014Everybody loves to talk about the television ads that help make the Super Bowl a huge media event, even for people who are not football fans. But the creativity extends to radio, and Westwood One plans to spotlight it.

The radio network’s Super Bowl coverage will be heard on more than 700 radio stations, and other venues including SiriusXM Radio, NFL.com/Audiopass, NFL Mobile from Verizon, and on the American Forces Radio Network.

The contest is called Super Bowl Sound Awards for Excellence in Audio Creativity. Westwood says it is “…a consumer-driven index that celebrates brand advertisers and audio creative.  More and more advertisers are maximizing their ad spends and strategically using sound to break through the clutter and effectively identify their brand. Westwood One–through its programming, experiential events, and digital assets—champions the power of sound by showcasing the best radio commercials within the biggest sporting event of the year—the Super Bowl.”

Listeners will pick the winner, with multiple platforms available where they can cast their vote.

Last year they selected Motel 6, beating out a top five that also included Tilted Kilt, Subway, Exergen, and Taco Bell.

“We created the Sound Awards to connect with and to encourage marketers, creatives, and brands to join forces and showcase the power of sound,” said Brandon Berman, SVP, Sports Sales & Marketing for Westwood One. “Our Super Bowl broadcast is the perfect environment for advertisers to leverage their commercial creative, thanks to our incredible reach and sheer volume of audience across platforms. Following the crowning of a Super Bowl Champion, we look forward to crowning an advertising champion.”
