WFAN launches search for new talent

This Saturday, July 10th WFAN-AM NY kicks off its Fantasy Phenom Challenge at Menlo Park Mall in Edison, N.J. (10:00AM).  Contestants in this unique contest will have an opportunity to earn an on-air shift. Those that pass the initial phase will audition in front of a panel of judges including members of the Boomer & Carton Morning Show along with WFAN update anchor Erica Herskowitz.

Subsequent auditions will be held at area malls through the end of July, and several local Buffalo Wild Wings establishments will host qualifying rounds beginning on Wednesday, July 14.

A number of contestants will move on to the semifinal rounds to be held in August at select Buffalo Wild Wings locations.  Finalists will then be judged for the ultimate prize at Mike Francesa’s “End of Summer” beach party and broadcast live from Bar A in Lake Como, N.J on Friday, August 27, broadcast on-air and online at www.wfan.com.

“WFAN is ready to add someone to the payroll,” says Vice President of Programming, CBS Radio New York and WFAN Operations Manager, Mark Chernoff.  “We know jobs in radio are hard to come by but we’re doing our part to identify talent and give someone a shot to host their own show on the FAN.  Our own Joe Benigno got his start at the FAN through a similar contest 15 years ago and we’re hoping to find talent this time around to be with us for another 15.  It guarantees to be a lot of fun.”

RBR-TVBR observation: A great idea!  The Fan is tieing in sponsors, saving some money and creating a heck of a buzz. This is how radio used to work it with talent – bring in folks that did not necessarily have radio experience, but were talented and really wanted to be behind the mic.
