WFNX-FM, WWBZ-AM launch new formats

WBZOn 5/28, Northeast Broadcasting’s WFNX-FM and WWBZ-AM Athol, MA simulcast split from AAA WXRV-FM “The River” Boston and began stunting with a broad spectrum of tunes, asking listeners to vote on songs online. Based off of that feedback, the stations each debuted new formats on 6/9. WFNX (99.9) and WWBZ (700) reach into the western suburbs of Boston, but their coverage is more Amherst, MA, Fitchburg, MA, Brattleboro, VT and Keene, VT. WFNX/WWBZ has been simulcasting WXRV since 2008. WWHK began a simulcast of WXRV on 5/2 with news, commercials, and weather separate from WXRV.

WFNX debuted Variety Hits “99.9 FM–We Play a Little Bit of Everything!” It’s asking listeners to use Vote999.com to select a name for the station. WWBZ is now Adult Standards/Oldies as “Legends 700 WBZ”—a throwback to what CBS Radio’s WBZ-AM Boston was playing in the day.
