Both are winners of George Foster Peabody Awards for distinguished achievement and meritorious public service by broadcasters. Four local TV stations are also among the 35 winners for programming that aired in 2007. The only local radio station to win was WNYC-AM & FM New York for “The Brian Lehrer Show,” a talk show hailed for being a “wide open yet shrewdly managed forum.”

The smallest market winner was WSLS-TV Roanoke, VA for its “Virginia Tech Shooting: The First 48 Hours.” According to the judges, “Covering the worst mass shooting in United States history and its immediate aftermath, the news staff of this station in Roanoke, Virginia, demonstrated knowledge of their community, mastery of their journalistic craft and remarkable, much-needed calm.”

WFAA-TV Dallas was honored for four investigative series, WTAE-TV Pittsburgh for a fight to gain access to public records, and KNXV-TV Phoenix for an expose of airport baggage screening lapses.
