A campaign designed to educate teens about the dangers associated with texting while driving, Beasley Broadcast Augusta, GA’s 98.3 WHHD-FM sponsored “Focus On the Road” between 9/1 and 10/31. As an incentive for the teens’ effort, HD 98.3 offered the local school with the highest participation an opportunity for a 15-20 minute acoustic presentation 11/4 by 23 year-old singer/songwriter Shontelle (pictured, whose hits include T-Shirt and Impossible).

Lakeside High School in Evans, GA won the mini-concert by having the most students sign the Focus On the Road campaign’s pledge, promising not to text or use cell phones while behind the wheel.

Says WHHD PD Chuck Whitaker: “We feel compelled to spread the message about the dangers of distracted driving, especially to our newest drivers. Those who text while driving are 23 times more likely to be involved in a
crash. We hope that learning the facts will encourage young drivers to put down their mobile devices and focus on the road. This is going to be a fun event for the students and it underscores a very important message.”
