Whitney and Chelsea up for NBC

Wednesday Results:
* At 8 p.m. ET, “Whitney” averaged a 1.4/4 in adults 18-49 and 4.5 million viewers overall.  Versus NBC’s average in the time period last season, “Whitney” is up 8 percent in 18-49 rating (with a 1.4 vs. a 1.3, “live plus same day” non-sports).  Versus NBC’s results in the half-hour on the same night last year, “Whitney” is also up 8 percent in 18-49 (1.4 vs. 1.3).  Note that Thursday first-run telecasts of “Whitney” averaged a 34 percent increase to these next-day “live plus same day” ratings when Nielsen issued “live plus seven day” results.


* At 8:30 ET, “Are You There, Chelsea?” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall) retained 100 percent of its 18-49 lead-in despite time-period competition from the concluding half-hour of “American Idol.”  “Chelsea” was up 9 percent versus lead-in in adults 18-34 (1.2 vs. 1.1) and up 14 percent in women 18-34 (1.6 vs. 1.4).

* At 9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” averaged a 1.2/3 in adults 18-49 and 3.8 million viewers overall.  “SVU” matched NBC’s top 18-49 rating in the time period since November 30. 

* At 10 p.m. ET, another rebroadcast of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” delivered a 1.4/4 in 18-49 and 4.0 million viewers overall, building on its lead-in by 17 percent in 18-49 rating and 7 percent in total viewers.  The “SVU” encore is #2 in the time slot among ABC, CBS and NBC in all key ratings categories.  Note that “Law & Order: SVU” originals have been adding 45 percent to these next-day “live plus same day” ratings when Nielsen issues “live plus seven day” results so far this season.

In Late-Night Metered Markets Wednesday night:
* In Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, household results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 2.6/7 with an encore telecast; CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” 2.5/6 with an encore; and ABC’s combo of “Nightline,” 3.0/7; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 1.4/4. 

* In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.9/4 with an encore; “Late Show,” 0.7/3 with an encore; “Nightline,” 0.8/3; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 0.4/2

* At 12:35 a.m., “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (1.4/5 in metered-market households with an encore) beat CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (1.2/4 with an encore).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Late Night” (0.6/4 in 18-49 with an encore) topped “Late Late Show” (0.4/3 with an encore).

* At 1:35 a.m., “Last Call with Carson Daly” averaged a 0.9/4 with an encore in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters
