Hubbard broadcasting’s newly-acquired Country 92.3 WIL-FM St. Louis is back to raise awareness and help stomp out breast cancer – with a twist. The 2011 Susan G. Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure is coming 6/11 in Downtown St. Louis, and 92.3 announced their partnership with the St. Louis Cardinals to form “Team Breadbird.”

The 2010 event drew more than 71,000 participants and raised more than $3.4 million. This year, the Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure is expected to draw many more participants and raise even more money for breast cancer screening, treatment, education and research.

“Team Breadbird” participants will wear Team Breadbird matching T-shirts, and will be lead by WIL 92.3 St. Louis morning show host Cornbread. The effort is sponsored by Vinson Mortgage and Massage Envy. The St. Louis Cardinals’ mascot Fredbird will be Cornbread’s co-chair for Team Breadbird.

In 2010, Team Breadhead set a national record with over 6,600 team members who raised close to $200,000 for The St. Louis Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Team Breadhead movement began in 2005 when Cornbread arrived in St. Louis and 92.3 WIL-FM, after having supported the Race for the Cure in Wichita, Kansas prior to his move to St. Louis. That first year of Team Breadhead, 1,800 people signed up to walk with Cornbread. Since 2007, Team Breadhead has fielded the largest team for the St. Louis Race for the Cure.
