Will new CDC head go after junk food

Tom Frieden has been picked to head the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – and one of his pet methods of prevention is to go after unhealthy foods, a battle that could have massive implications for the advertising business. Frieden was New York City Health Commissioner, a platform he used to attack trans fat, salt and soft drinks. Writing for Slate.com, William Saletan notes that Americans are not keen on having bureaucrats tell them what they can and cannot eat, regardless of nutritional value.

RBR/TVBR observation: Whenever a product becomes a target, the advertising of the product is also in the line of fire. We’re not sure what a CDC director is jurisdictionally capable of doing, but this one will certainly bear monitoring.
