Wisconsin Broadcasters Take A Page From Congress

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association board wanted to increase member involvement in legislative issues impacting radio and TV station owners across the state.

It hopes this will be accomplished through the creation of a legislative committee comprised of WBA members in each of the eight Congressional districts of Wisconsin.

Committee members will be involved in planning the WBA State Legislative Day in January 2019, the WBA’s February trip to Washington, D.C., and other events and meetings on an as-needed basis.

“WBA members have always been strongly invested in our association and this committee gives them the opportunity to get even closer to the legislative process,” said WBA President/CEO Michelle Vetterkind. “This will get lawmakers closer to the people who lead the radio and TV stations that are making a difference in their communities.”

The committee will be chaired by incoming WBA Board Vice Chair-Television Don Vesely and fellow Vice Chair Tom Walker, head of Mid-West Family Broadcasting, a company his grandfather founded.

Roger Utnehmer is relieved as WBA’s a leader on legislative issues on the state and national level. The WBA thanked Utnehmer “for his countless hours of service and his enthusiastic advocacy for broadcasters and the valuable service they provide to local communities.”

The committee will meet at the WBA State Legislative Day on Jan. 30 in Madison.
