WJZR To Return To Rochester, N.Y., Thanks To WXXI

In January 1993, a Class A FM radio station serving the city of Rochester, N.Y., signed on the air. It gained a small but loyal following of jazz and blues aficionados. By July 10, 2022, that audience wasn’t enough to keep the tunes flowing, as owner Lee Rust took the station dark under Special Temporary Authority and “retired.”

Soon, the station will resume broadcasting, and from a new tower. It’s thanks to a deal that saw Scott Fybush serve as the broker for the buyer, the region’s main public broadcasting service provider.
