WLBE-AM 790 Leesburg, FL is back on the air 7/16 after being struck by lightning on 7/5, which resulted in technical difficulties for nine days.

“The damage was so severe that we had to spend thousands of dollars on parts and repair,” Mac McNair, the station’s general manager, said.

“We have had hundreds of phone calls and dozens of walk-ins,” McNair said of folks who were concerned about radio station not being on the air. “There were some that even called the sheriff’s department.”

McNair said the station, which has been in operation since 1967, has listeners from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic, and as far north as Gainesville and south as Winter Haven.
