WPYT deal comes undone

The $500K deal for WPYT-AM in the Pittsburgh market has unraveled, along with the health of the prospective buyer. Eddie Edwards had hoped to use the station to fill to void left by the sale of local Urban outlet WAMO to a noncommercial Catholic group.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Edwards is suffering from an undisclosed illness, which required hospitalization and has left him under a physician’s care.

Edwards was buying the station, licensed to close-in suburb town Wilkinsburg, from Langer Broadcasting, and was also said to be on the lookout for an FM to go with it.

RBR-TVBR observation: It’s amazing that the availability of programming aimed at a key local demographic is hanging by such a frail thread – the health  of one person takes a turn for the worse and an entire demo is left unserved.
