WRXP, Q-101 ending formats by Thursday?

That’s what’s being talked everywhere, and Merlin Media CEO Randy Michaels tells RBR-TVBR: “I’m sure there is some smoke, but my head is down.” Seems Merlin Media may be taking over from Emmis sooner than we all thought. Some reports say 7/14 will be the last day of Indie/Alternative WRXP-FM; others say the same of Alternative WKQX-FM (Q101) Chicago. While employees are hearing their last day will be on 7/14, some may be kept on-board. Meanwhile, Merlin Media just may assume control of the stations on 7/15 and either take them stunting or go into the all-news mode.

RBR-TVBR observation: Yes, we’ve heard they are currently building out newsrooms at the two stations, so stunting is what you’ll probably find come Friday. That stunting may be out of this world stuff too, because Randy doesn’t typically do things half-assed!
