Young Women Of Color To Benefit From Donated AM

A Class D AM on the outskirts of Alabama’s biggest city has been donated to a group that plans to use the facility and its unbuilt FM translator to “successfully advance their educational outreach to the young women of color” in the area for which these facilities serve.

In a Form 314 filing with the FCC that includes no written agreement, the Communications and Educational Development Initiative has agreed to donate WKDG-AM 1450 in Sumiton, Ala., and the CP for BNPFT- 20180507AAR in Sumiton to Save Our Daughterz.

The recipient is a non-profit organization led by President Carnetta Brown, of Birmingham.

That’s the market WKDG and its forthcoming FM translator will serve.

The current licensee is connected to Save Our Daughterz, as owner Robin May is a 25% voting member.

Save Our Daughterz was established in 2017 as an outlet for underprivileged Black girls, providing them with the tools needed “to successfully matriculate into womanhood.”

Programming will focus on “family, finance and faith.”
