Z100 Brings NYC ‘Music to Light’ Shows To Iconic Edifice

The New York Tri-State Area has emerged as a global epicenter for the continued spread of the novel coronavirus.

As such, life as normal has largely grounded to a halt. Now, iHeartRadio is literally beaming a ray of light to the Big Apple in a partnership with the Empire State Building. It involves a live light show, and Facebook Live streaming for those practicing social distancing.

Starting tonight (3/27) at 9pm, the iconic skyscraper will present a light show synced to “the modern era anthem of New York” — Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind.”

Listeners can tune to WHTZ “Z100” via their preferred method of access to hear the song and, so long as they’re six feet apart from one another, look at the building as it presents its light show.

Not safe enough for you and your family? Not to worry:  the show, designed by world-renowned lighting artist Marc Brickman, will be streamed on the Empire State Building’s Facebook page.

Can’t make it Friday night? Not to worry — the light show will replay on Saturday (3/28) and again from Monday through Thursday.

On Sunday, there’s an even-bigger light display set for the entire 9pm hour, in support of a TV special co-presented by iHeartMedia and FOX, the iHeart Living Room Concert for America.

The Empire State Building light show was created to honor the first responders who are dealing with COVID-19 cases day and night. Kicking off the night show at 8:55pm each evening is Z100-based Premiere Networks syndicated morning host Elvis Duran.

Duran will offer a spotlight interview to highlight the individuals who are on the front lines of the fight against the novel coronavirus.

“New Yorkers always find a way to unite and encourage one another during challenging times,” said iHeartMedia Chief Programming Officer Tom Poleman. “Our hope is to continue to provide some comfort to our listeners through the healing powers of music, as we show our country’s resilience and strength.”

Camila Cabello, Dave Grohl, H.E.R. and Sam Smith will join the already announced lineup for “FOX PRESENTS THE IHEART LIVING ROOM CONCERT FOR AMERICA” – a music event to help fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to celebrate the resilience and strength of the nation during this pandemic. Previously announced performers include Alicia Keys, Backstreet Boys, Billie Eilish, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Mariah Carey and Tim McGraw. Hosted by Elton John, the one-hour benefit special will air on iHeartRadio stations and FOX O&Os and affiliates during the 10pm ET hour on Sunday.

The event benefits Feeding America® and First Responders Children’s Foundation.
