Baltimore AM weighing possible political situation

Hearst-Argyle’s WBAL-AM Baltimore currently has former Republican Governor Robert Erlich and his wife holding down a Saturday morning airshift with “The Kendel and Bob Show,” giving them a forum to discuss anything they like. But as talk about a possible Erlich attempt to get his old job back v. current Governor Martin O’Malley (D), the station is said to already be weighing its options.

A similar situation has famously come up in Phoenix AZ, where Clear Channel KFYI Talker J.D. Hayworth was using a radio show to blast Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), all while harboring thoughts of mounting a primary challenge to the sitting Senator. Hayworth left the air and did in fact embark on a primary challenge.

According to the Washington Post, one solution WBAL is mulling is kicking off program which might be called “The Katie and Martin Show,” starring O’Malley and his wife, thus pre-emptively shushing any complaints about equal time.

According to the Post, an Ehrlich challenge is seen as likely. There is no word as to whether the O’Malleys are keen to start moonlighting as radio hosts.
