“Dateline NBC” #1 on Friday

At 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “Whitney” averaged a 0.5/2 in 18-49 and 2.5 million viewers overall.  At 8:30, a rebroadcast of “Community” delivered a 0.4/2 in 18-49 and 1.8 million viewers overall.


From 9-11 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall) delivered the #1 results of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers with three-week highs in all three categories.  In the time period, “Dateline” ranked #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key categories.  Week to week, “Dateline” was up 18 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.3 rating from a 1.1), 20 percent in adults 25-54 (1.8 vs. 1.5) and 20 percent in total viewers (5.564 million vs. 4.653 million).  From its first half-hour to its fourth, “Dateline” grew by 56 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.4 rating from a 0.9), 54 percent in adults 25-54 (2.0 vs. 1.3) and 40 percent or 1.8 million persons in total viewers (6.2 million vs. 4.4 million.

In the 10:30 lead-in to local news, “Dateline NBC” delivered a 33 percent margin of victory in the key news demo of adults 25-54 (with a 2.0 rating vs. ABC’s second-place 1.5).  “Dateline” also led at 10:30 in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key categories.

On the Other Networks Friday night:

ABC (2.1/8) led Friday with repeats of “Shark Tank” (a first-place 1.1/4 at 8 p.m.), “Primetime: What Would You Do?” (a first-place 1.2/4 at 9) and “20/20” (a second-place 1.1/4 at 10).  CBS repeats and Fox repeats (0.7/3 each) tied for #3 for the night.

In late-night metered-market households Friday night:

In Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, household results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 2.8/7; CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” 2.1/5 with an encore; and ABC’s combo of “Nightline,” 3.3/8; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 1.5/4 with an encore.

In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.9/4; “Late Show,” 0.6/3 with an encore; “Nightline,” 1.0/4; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 0.5/3 with an encore.

At 12:35 a.m., “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (1.4/4 in metered-market households) beat CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (1.1/4).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Late Night” (0.5/3 in 18-49) topped “Late Late Show” (0.3/2).

At 1:35 a.m., “Last Call with Carson Daly” averaged a 0.8/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.3/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

Saturday Primetime Results:

From 8-10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of “America’s Got Talent” (0.9/4 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall) generated NBC’s top 18-49 and total-viewer results in the time period in 14 weeks (since February 11).  From its first half-hour to its fourth, “Talent” grew in 18-49 rating by 83 percent (to a 1.1 from a 0.6) and in total viewers by 45 percent or more than 1.3 million persons (to 4.4 million from 3.1 million).

Pending updates, the “America’s Got Talent” encore finished #1 in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and all key adult-female demos and is in a virtual tie for #1 in total viewers (with 3.828 million viewers vs. 3.829 million for CBS).  Note that Fox results for its live NASCAR coverage are subject to significant adjustment in official nationals.

At 10 p.m. ET, an encore of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall) locked up the show’s highest 18-49 rating for a Saturday rebroadcast since November 19 and its biggest Saturday viewership since November 5.  In the time period, “SVU” is tied for #2 among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and #2 outright in total viewers.

For the night, NBC is currently tied for #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in 18-49 and is #1 outright in adults 25-54 and all key adult-female demos (pending updates — Fox results for its live NASCAR coverage are subject to significant adjustment in official nationals).  NBC’s 0.9 average for the night in 18-49 is its highest for a Saturday since February 11 and its 4.0 million viewer average is the network’s best for a Saturday since January 21.

On the Other Networks Saturday night

Fox’s Reds-Mets Major League Baseball was down 12% versus the prior week’s Mets-Yankees coverage (with a 2.3/5 vs. a 2.6/5 in metered-market households from 8-10 p.m.).  Last week’s game translated to a primetime 0.7 in national 18-49s.  Fast-affiliate ratings, subject to significant adjustment for live telecasts, currently gives this week’s coverage a third-place 0.7/3 from 8-10.

ABC was #2 among the Big 4 with the 2006 movie “Cars” (0.9/3 from 8-11 p.m.).

CBS (0.5 /2) trailed the pack with the “Comedytime” telecasts of “Rules of Engagement” (a fourth-place 0.3/1 with an 8 p.m. repeat) and “How To Be a Gentleman” (a fourth-place 0.3/1 at 8:30), a “Crimetime” encore of “Hawaii Five-0” (a fourth-place 0.5/2 at 9) and a repeat “48 Hours” (a third-place 0.8/3 at 10).

In Late-Night Metered-Market Household Averages for Saturday night:

An encore telecast of “Saturday Night Live,” with host Jonah Hill and musical guest The Shins (3.0/8 in metered-market households), dominated its time period.  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Saturday Night Live” averaged a 1.6 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49, making it the night’s #1 non-sports program in the Local People Meters, ahead of all primetime telecasts on ABC, CBS and Fox.
