Kent Dunn is returning home to Georgia. As a result, Mark Haddon is “shifting his responsibilities” by no longer running an eight-station cluster owned and operated by Beasley Broadcast Group. Just don’t call it a “demotion.”
Dunn, who relocated from Beasley’s Augusta, Ga., station group in November 2014 to become VP/Market Manager of the company’s newly obtained Tampa-St. Petersburg station group, will hold that title once again in Georgia.
The change is set for Monday, at which time current VP/Market Manager Haddon will return to his former role as Director of Sales for Beasley/Augusta. The cluster is comprised of WCHZ-FM 95.5 and W238AU at 93.1, WDRR-FM 93.9, WGAC-AM 580 & FM 95.1, WGUS-FM 102.7, WHHD-FM 98.3, WKXC-FM 99.5, and WRDW-AM 1630.
Commenting on the shift after three years overseeing a Tampa Bay cluster that has seen challenges at WPBB-FM 98.7, previously Bubba The Love Sponge affiliate WBRN-FM, EVP/COO Brian Beasley said, “Kent leads by example in everything he does. We look forward to Kent returning to his roots and once again overseeing the cluster and enjoying the similar success he had both in Augusta and Tampa. It’s a privilege to have him on our team.”
Dunn joined Beasley in 1991. As GM and, later, Market Manager, he had a top role in Augusta starting in 1993 and ending with his shift to Tampa.
“I am very grateful to the Beasley family for providing me with the opportunity to move back home near my family and once again lead the company’s Augusta-based stations,” Dunn said. “I look forward to working with Mark and the cluster’s outstanding team in expanding our presence in the community.”
Tampa has been a challenging revenue market for Beasley. CEO Caroline Beasley noted during the company’s Q3 earnings call that gains in Detroit, Philadelphia and Boston were offset by declines in Tampa, Charlotte and Las Vegas.
In addition to WPBB, Beasley’s Tampa Bay station group includes Classic Hits WRBQ-FM “Q105,” Latin Contemporary WYUU-FM “Maxima 92.5,” Rhythmic Top 40 WLLD-FM 94.1, Country WQYK-FM 99.5, and Financial Talk WHFS-AM 1010.
A Beasley spokesperson says the company will have an announcement about the new market manager in Tampa “in the very near future.”
