EntercomSaying it is “energizing morning radio” in the Greenville-Spartanburg market, Entercom Communications is going local on 106.3 WORD-FM from 6AM until noon weekdays with one imported air talent and another moving from a weekend time slot.

Handing the 6AM-10AM shift will be Tara Servatius, coming over from Cumulus News-Talker WTMA-AM Charleston SC.

Moving from Sundays on WORD-FM is Vince Coakley, who will man the mic from 10AM-noon. Lee Rogers will continue to handle news anchor chores for the morning drive shift.

“We are energizing morning radio with the launch of these vibrant, live, and local talk shows,” said Entercom Greenville V.P. and Market Manager, Steve Sinicropi. “Both Tara and Vince will deliver fresh, and thought provoking commentary on the issues and news our community cares about most. We are excited about fans joining in the on-air conversation on the only Upstate local news/talk station.”

“I am thrilled about the opportunity to host a new program on WORD 106.3,” said Servatius. “I look forward to mixing it up with guests and callers on the day’s events, and covering breaking news as it occurs.”

“I am very excited to move to weekday mornings,” said Vince Coakley. “I can’t wait to bring my provocative angle and humorous perspective on issues impacting our listeners every weekday.”

Rush Limbaugh takes over Noon-3 p.m., followed by Bob McLain 3-7 p.m., Dave Ramsey 7-9 p.m., and Sean Hannity 9 p.m.-Midnight.

RBR-TVBR observation: Differentiation is a key to survival and national digital services have a hard time doing local. Broadcasters should use this as much as they possibly can, all while encroaching as much as possible on the competition’s digital terrain.

Remember that doing local is hard — you can do it but they can’t — and doing digital is relatively easy. Beating national encroachers on the difficult local part and using it as a lever to compete digitally may be the recipe for success going forward.
