John O’Connell out at Palm Beach Broadcasting

Your FiredLongtime CBS Radio and Palm Beach Broadcasting OM/PD John O’Connell is out at Palm Beach Broadcasting in West Palm Beach. We had reported in June that PBB said O’Connell would be staying on after its deal with CBS Radio to buy three local West Palm Beach stations.

It looks like Program Director Steve Richards and Market Manager Elizabeth Hamma are handling O’Connell’s responsibilities.

In April, Dean Goodman, CEO of Palm Beach Broadcasting, signed with CBS to purchase the stations for $50 million.

Ownership caps limit Goodman to ownership of four FMs in that market. So Goodman kept WMBX (Mix 102.3); Country WIRK (107.9), Hot AC WPBZ (Now 103.1), and the programming on WEAT/Sunny 104.3—Now 104.3 The Ticket WAXY-FM. Goodman already owned AC WRMF (97.9).

As part of acquiring those stations, PBB sold the flamethrower 104.3 signal to Lincoln Financial Media because it can be moved out of the market to Miami.

Sunny FM switched to 107.9. WIRK moved from 107.9 to 103.1. WPBZ was shuttered.
