NBC Wednesday #2 w/ premiere 'Law & Order: Los Angeles'

At 10 p.m., the premiere of “Law & Order: Los Angeles” (3.1/9 in adults 18-49, 10.5 million viewers overall) won the time period in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key categories.  The “Law & Order: LA” margin of victory in that hour is 24 percent in 18-49 (with a 3.1 rating vs. 2.5 for CBS’s second-place “Defenders”).


Versus NBC’s slot averages last season, “Law & Order: LA” is up 63 percent in adult 18-49 rating (3.1 vs. 1.9) and up 63 percent or 4.1 million persons in total viewers (10.520 million vs. 6.456 million).

“Law & Order: Los Angeles” is the #2 10 p.m. drama premiere thus far this season behind only CBS’s “Hawaii Five-0” (3.9).  Among the 10 p.m. drama debuts “Law & Order: LA” has topped are CBS’s “The Defenders” (2.9) and ABC’s “Detroit 1-8-7” (2.3) and “The Whole Truth” (1.5). 

In the 10:30 lead-in to local news, “Law & Order: Los Angeles” ranked #1 in the key news demographic of adults 25-54 with a 6 percent margin of victory (3.6 vs. 3.4 for CBS’s second-place “Defenders”).

At 9 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2.7/7 in adults 18-49, 9.2 million viewers overall) improved on its results in this time period on the same night last year by 8 percent in 18-49 rating (2.7 vs. 2.5) and 14 percent or nearly 1.2 million persons in total viewers (9.249 million vs. 8.085 million). 

From its first half-hour to its second, “SVU” grew by 21 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.9 from a 2.4) and by 16 percent or 1.3 million persons in total viewers (9.914 million vs. 8.583 million).  From 9:30-10 p.m., “SVU” is #1 among NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox in adults 18-34 and women 18-34 and #2 in total viewers, women 18-49 and men 18-34 (tie).

At 8 p.m. ET, “Undercovers” averaged a 1.6/5 in adults 18-49 and 7.1 million viewers overall.  From its first half-hour to its second, “Undercovers” increased its 18-49 rating by 13 percent (to a 1.7 from a 1.5).  “Undercovers” grew half-hour to half-hour in every key ratings category — adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, as well as total viewers.

 Late-Night rating Wednesday, ‘Jay Leno’ defeats ‘David Letterman’

In Late-Night Metered Markets Wednesday night: In Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, household results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 3.3/9; CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” 2.7/7; and ABC’s combo of “Nightline,” 2.6/6; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 1.3/4. 

In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 1.1/5; “Late Show,” 0.8/4; “Nightline,” 0.9/4; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 0.5/3.

At 12:35 a.m., “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (1.5/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (1.4/5).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Late Night” (0.6/4 in 18-49) topped “Late Late Show” (0.4/3).

At 1:35 a.m., Last Call with Carson Daly” averaged a 0.9/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.
