Week 45: 'MasterChef' premiere 'Hell's Kitchen' fired up Fox

FOX won last week by +14% among Adults 18-49 versus its next highest-rated competitor thanks to the stellar premiere of new culinary competition MASTERCHEF and strong performances by GLEE, HELL’S KITCHEN and its Sunday Animation Domination encores. 


On Tuesday night, FOX’s new series MASTERCHEF achieved the highest rated series debut of the summer among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.  FOX outperformed its nearest competitors for the night, ABC and NBC, by a substantial +40% among Adults 18-49 and ABC by +63% among Adults 18-34.

At 9p MASTERCHEF posted a 2.7/8 among Adults 18-49 and retained 93% of its HELL’S KITCHEN lead-in (2.9/10) among Adults 18-49. Showing momentum, MASTERCHEF gained +2% in its second half hour among Total Viewers (5.8 vs. 5.7 Mil.).
In fact, MASTERCHEF is the highest rated series summer premiere on any net since 2008 among Adults 18-49 (NBC’s America’s Toughest Jobs on 8/25/08) and Adults 18-34 (NBC’s Baby Borrowers on 6/25/08).

Prior to that, HELL’S KITCHEN aired at 8p and was the highest-rated program of the night, gaining +7% versus the previous week among Adults 18-49.
Thursday’s lineup of an encore GLEE and the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE results show once again delivered strong restuls.

At 8p an encore GLEE posted a 1.3/5 among Adults 18-49 and ranked No. 3 in its hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.

The second Top 6 SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE results show posted a 2.0/6, matching the previous week (2.0/7) and was up +4% in Total Viewers (5.9 vs. 5.7 Mil.)
Summer-to-date SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE showed gains compared to its Fall’09 average on Tue/Wed, increasing +4% among Adults 18-49 (2.5/8 vs. 2.4/7) and +6% in Total Viewers (6.6 vs. 6.2 Mil.)

FOX’s week ended with encores of its Sunday Animation Domination block, which gave the network another nightly win on Sunday.

FOX won the night among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54 and all key male and female demos.  HELL’S KITCHEN was the highest rated program of the night followed by the debut of MASTERCHEF, as they outperformed NBC’s America’s Got Talent and the premiere of Breakthrough With Tony Robbins.
