Another reader offers a second to Russ Oasis' comments (1/13 RBR #9).

I agree with your recent writer who says radio needs more than PR to fix its problems. I think music radio has the most to fear from satellite radio yet stations don't seem to be addressing this issue. We've all had countless "civilians" with no inside knowledge of the business ask "why do stations play the same songs over and over?". Yet nothing changes.

Here I am in my early 40s with no music station to listen to in my home market - classic rock is too old with burned out songs and the new music stations are too bubble gum and rap oriented for me. Because radio refused to play the new artists I liked when they were new there is a great void that drives me to talk radio or Napster. A new format that touts itself as "Rock Without Rules" debuted in my hometown a couple months ago. I tried to listen the other day but the first song I heard was "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones...are you kidding? THIS is what "Without Rules" means? I just clicked my Napster icon again.

Please wake up! It's not just your spotloads driving away listeners. Have you heard the playlists on XM, Sirius and Cable? Copy them...they're just plain better.
