BIA Financial Network's latest listing of America's top billing radio stations is a strictly a bicoastal affair, and with one exception, a two-company affair as well. Emmis Communications managed to sneak one onto a list otherwise dominated by Clear Channel and Infinity. New York played host to the top two billing stations in 2004 and in total, split the top ten list evenly with Los Angeles at five apiece. Clear Channel was #1 with WLTW-FM, followed by Infinity and its WINS-AM. Infinity lead in LA with KROQ-FM, followed by CCU's KFI-AM. Emmis snagged #5 with KPRW-FM LA. Infinity had three of the remaining five slots, to CCU's two. BIAfn's Mark Fratrik said that lackluster growth patterns have made it difficult for stations to execute a major leap in the rankings. "With the total industry revenues increasing at below 3% in 2004, it is difficult for a station to make enough of a big leap to overtake the top stations in the industry," he said.
