Cox Media Group Houston on 11/8 debuted 106.9 The Zone (KHPT) – Alternative Hits of the 80s and 90s. The new alternative hits presentation evolves from “106.9 The Point – Best of the 80s…and More” format. Superstar artists such as Pearl Jam, U2, Foo Fighters, Green Day, R.E.M., Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Matchbox 20 will be featured among many others.
“There is a definite appetite in our market for music by these great artists,” Cox Media Group Market Manager/VP Mark Krieschen said. “106.9 The Zone is targeting the alternative music fan that appreciates the great classics, and has a passion for this music genre. We think a lot of people will discover a new favorite radio station when they hear 106.9 The Zone.”
The station kicks off the format with a major television campaign and will also have a strong presence with social media via its own website (www.1069thezone.com), Facebook, and Twitter.
