Halfway between Thunder Bay, Ontario and Duluth, Minn., is the tower for a 63kw FM licensed to Grand Marais, Minn., atop Lutsen Mountain.
This station presently has the call letters once assigned to a station in Panama City, Fla., and after a period of silence due to transmitter problems is back on the air as a simulcast partner of a Classic Rocker based in Wisconsin.
Now, the facility is trading hands.
In a deal consummated June 20, Mike and Wendy Oberg and their Zoe Communications are moving forward with their purchase of WVVE-FM 95.3 in Grand Marais from Shire and Shore Communications.
The Obergs are the owners of WGMO-FM 95.3 in Spooner, Wisc., a Class C3 facility nearly 180 miles to the south.
Thanks to terrain and the stations’ co-channel presence, WGMO and WVVE are simulcast partners — at least for now.
It’s better than not being on the air, which was the case for WVVE until earlier this month. In 2018, it aired an Adult Alternative format.
The Obergs are buying WVVE for $30,000, with Matthew Butler signing off on the deal for the seller.
