On June 30, Greg Bilte will conclude a career in television broadcasting that began in 1979, when he took a job as an account executive at KXLY-TV in Spokane.

Now, in Washington’s other big DMA, the search is on for a new VP/GM at the Cox Media Group station Bilte has been overseeing.

Bilte has held the top position for CBS affiliate KIRO-7 in Seattle-Tacoma since 2016, when he traveled to the Pacific Northwest after serving in a similar role at Cox-owned FOX affiliate KOKI-23 and MyNetworkTV sibling KMYT-41.

For the previous 18 years, Bilte was associated with KTVU-2 and KICU-36 in San Francisco, rising from NSM to LSM and then GSM.

Bilte’s experience also includes a role as NSM for FOX O&O KTTV-11 in Los Angeles, from June 1991 through 1995.

Bilte’s replacement at KIRO has not yet been named.

“The common themes that have been plainly evident throughout Greg’s career are his dedication to the communities he has served and the meaningful relationships he has developed with his employees and customers,” said CMG EVP/Television Paul Curran. “Most recently, Greg’s dedication to the Seattle community was especially evident as he led his team to inform and guide KIRO’s audience through the onslaught of the coronavirus outbreak, which hit Seattle especially hard. Countless CMG leaders began their careers working with Greg – his passion for TV and for developing his people are unmatched. We will miss him but are incredibly happy that Greg will now have ample time to dedicate to his family in this next chapter of his life.”

Bilte, who was an AE at Telerep in the late 1980s, added, “I sincerely appreciate the support, mentorship and many opportunities provided to me at this tremendous company. We have a special ‘secret sauce’ at CMG that makes it a great place to work and I could not be prouder of what we have built and accomplished together. While I do look forward to retirement, I will miss my team and colleagues at CMG and am extremely grateful for the rich friendships I have built during my career here.”
