A Big Houston Hug For Entercom And Telemundo

Don’t think for a minute that Entercom Communications lacks the scalability of a Hispanic media giant such as Univision.

The same can be said for Comcast’s NBCUniversal Hispanic Enterprises and its Telemundo broadcast television network.

The owner of radio stations across the U.S. — including Spanish Contemporary KLOL-FM “Mega 101” in Houston — has forged a multi-platform media partnership with Telemundo O&O KTMD-47 in Houston.

While this boots Mega 101 and the Telemundo station in Houston, it also includes the distribution of content across Entercom’s Country KILT-FM 100.3 “The Bull,” Adult Hits KKHH-FM 95.7 “The Spot,” Hot AC KHMX-FM “Mix 96.5,” and Sports KIKK-AM “CBS Sports Radio 650.”

Content will also be distributed across each entity’s websites and social media platforms.

“We are excited to partner with Telemundo and further serve our community with enhanced coverage,” Entercom/Houston SVP/Market Manager Sarah Frazier said. “We’re looking forward to continue bringing our listeners improved access and coverage of live, local news.”

Telemundo Houston has collaborated with Entercom on numerous projects throughout the years. However, KTMD President/GM Tony Canales notes, “This formal agreement expands our content and promotional reach across a strong cluster of local radio stations of popular formats and in two languages. In addition, sharing Entercom content on our television station will add value to our audience.”

In the August 2018 Nielsen Audio ratings for Houston-Galveston, Entercom’s 6+ leader by share is a resurgent KKHH, now No. 4 overall with a 5.7 share. KLOL is Entercom’s second-highest station, with a 4.2 share. KILT and KHMX are right behind in the 6+ ratings, while KILT-AM has a 0.9 share.

Meanwhile, KTMD-47 is engaged in a ratings battle with Univision O&O KXLN-45 and HC2 Holdings’ Azteca América O&O KYAZ-51.
