A Centennial Celebration Comes To WGN Radio

CHICAGO — On May 19, 1922, radio enthusiasts Thorne Donnelley and Elliott Jenkins started broadcasting from the Wrigley Building with an experimental station named “WDAP.”

Two years later, the station was acquired by the editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune and given new call letters to reflect the Tribune’s ownership and its belief that it was the “World’s Greatest Newspaper.”

A century later, Nexstar Media Group is ready to pop the champagne and celebrate the life of WGN Radio.
